Addition of New Street Sweepers
Peoria is adding two new street sweepers to our current fleet of six machines. Street sweeping is vital to the maintenance of our stormwater infrastructure and the elimination of pollution in our waterways. With the stormwater utility, Peoria will increase street sweeping from twice a year to monthly during warmer weather.
One of the new machines marks a milestone for our City. With the purchase of the “Elgin Whirlwind,” Peoria will own its first ever regenerative air sweeper. This was an important addition to our toolbox as it is especially effective for green infrastructure. The sweeper is perfectly suited for uneven roads and jobs involving dirt, sand, millings, general street sweeping, leaves and road debris applications. The Whirlwind helps restore permeable pavement by shooting air between the cracks of the pavers to dislodge the dirt and then sweeping it up. This deep cleaning allows permeable pavers to maintain their capacity for water storage.
